Superficial red blood vessels seem to absorb blue light. If a patient has rosacea and significant superficial blood vessels on the eyelids, the blue light emitted from most electronic screens may be absorbed by these vessels significantly. This may increase localized inflammation.
I will look up some studies on this shortly.
In the mean time, I have started calling this Cremers Sign as it is so prominent in our severe dry eye patients who also have rosacea. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) seems to help decrease this inflammation.
