Lipiflow should not include iLux and Meiboflow and labeled under Thermal Pulsation.
Lipiflow is the oldest and most widely used. There have been no head to head studies among them.
The basic idea of heat….massaging…pumping the oil out is critical in saving the glands.
If there is a blockage, probing is a must.
I have still not seen any papers to say probing, IPL, or Lipiflow causes any damage or worsening scar tissue in the meibomian glands. On the contrary, many papers have shown all of the above to be the best option to save the glands compared to standard warm compresses (standard 15min 2x/day…which few people do).
We have had a great deal of success in pain relief using Autologous Serum, PRP drops, Stem Cell drops and Cord Blood Serum drops: the latter two have been described as “miraculous” by multiple patients.
It will take years before we have head to head comparisons between a patient’s own Serum, PRP, Stem Cells compared to Xiidra, Restasis, Oxervate: drug companies are not eager to fund these studies.
