Narrow Angles

Spiriva for COPD can theoretically cause angle closure glaucoma in narrow angle patients, but risk likely low.

There is 1 case report of Tiotropium (ingredient in SPIRIVA) causing acute angle closure glaucoma. If you have narrow angles of eye, let PCP know. Otherwise rare risk of cataract. No case reports of macular degeneration.  Pulm Pharmacol Ther. 2007;20(6):627-8. Epub 2006 Aug 18. Acute angle-closure glaucoma precipitated by local tiotropium absorption. New Imaging Technique to evaluate for Narrow Angles and Narrow Angle Glaucoma: Coming hopefully soon.

This is a 3D imaging technique that will allow us to more clearly see all aspects of the angle in dark and light conditions to see if the angle is indeed narrow and at risk of angle closure glaucoma. The Curved Dome is the Anterior Cornea The White “ball” at bottom center is the lense

Narrow Angle and risks of Acute Angle Closure Glaucoma with the Objective Measurements of the Pentacam

Narrow Angle and risks of Acute Angle Closure Glaucoma with the Objective Measurements of the Pentacam For many years both as a resident at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and as an attending at Harvard Medical School, it never ceased to amazed us of how patients inevitably would come in to the ER with

Narrow Angles: a risk for Glaucoma

NARROW ANGLES The angle of the eye is the “angle” between the cornea (the clear window of the eye) and the iris (the colored part of the eye) where fluid (aqueous) inside of the eye drains out to the trabecular meshwork or “sink.” Some people are born with narrow, draining angles. Some  develop increasing narrowing
