We are seeing potential future ideas in Dry Eye Care as the next level of hope for patients.
These include:
1. Injection of PRP into the meibomian glands and maybe along the limbal stem cell region to see if it can help regrow nerves.
2. Injection of Stem Cells into the meibomian glands and maybe along the limbal stem cell region to see if it can help regrow nerves.
3. Injection of PRP or Stem Cells under a “Re-Lifted” LASIK flap to see if it can help regrow nerves.
4. Injection of carbon nanotubes to re-create Meibomian Gland structures and fill them up with stem cells to see if the stem cells can recreated Meibomian Glands
5. Transplant full eyelids and meibomian glands with stem cell injections around transplant area to see if nerves can innervate the lid and glands to make them work properly.
6. Mechanical lids or reservoirs of meibum or oil at the inner lid margin to see if a normal blink can excrete a little oil each time.
7. There is a lot of hope for treatments and maybe even cures for dry eye patients. Hang in there!
